What is Acne?
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions our patients, and this comes as no surprise. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S. that isn't life-threatening. Characterized by small, red, raised bumps along the skin or solid, often painful lumps underneath the surface of the skin, acne is the chronic and long-term development of zits or pimples on the face, chest, back, shoulders, and/or neck. Our dermatologists typically classify acne into four different types:
- Papules: These blemishes are small, red, raised bumps that are a result of inflamed pores or infected hair follicles.
- Pustules: These are characterized by small red bumps that have little white tips to them filled with pus.
- Nodules: These acne spots are often large, red, painful lumps underneath the skin's surface.
- Cysts: Cysts are the most severe form of acne characterized by painful, large lumps underneath the skin containing pus.
How Much Do Acne Treatments Cost?
The cost of your acne treatments at Suncoast Skin Solutions is going to vary depending on the type of treatment you choose to receive, the extent of treatment needed to achieve your desired results, and your health insurance coverage. To find out a more accurate cost for your acne treatments, we encourage you to come in for a private consultation with one of our expert staff members.
What Causes Acne?
Acne and other blemishes often occur when the pores of the skin become filled with excess dirt, oil, bacteria, or dead skin. These clogged pores may become infected, or the buildup of substances may cause blockages that the pores cannot fix on their own. Other factors that may help to contribute to the onset of acne include hormonal changes in the body, genetic factors, a sugar and carbohydrate-rich diet, and prescription medications. If you believe your acne may be caused by any of these risk factors or wish to treat your chronic acne breakouts, we encourage you to come in for a private consultation with one of our dermatologists.
