What is the difference between Juvederm and Voluma? | Tampa | St. PeteBoth Juvederm XC and Juvederm Voluma are widely accepted dermal fillers manufactured by Allergen, Inc. The FDA has approved both of these anti-aging facial filler cosmetic dermatology treatments.

The treatment provider will assess the patient’s requirements and recommend the most suitable filler in each case.

At the time of the pre-treatment consultation, the provider will inform the patient on the differences between Juvederm and Voluma to make sure that the patient makes an enlightened decision.

Suncoast Skin Solutions, led by board certified dermatologist Dr. Christopher Ewanowski, provides dermal filler treatments to patients in Tampa, Brandon, Lutz, Seminole, Riverview, Brooksville, Winter Haven, Daytona Beach, Largo, St. Petersburg, Ocala, Sarasota, Central Florida, Florida, and surrounding communities.

Differences

Juvederm and Voluma dermal fillers are both based on hyaluronic acid (HA). This substance is found naturally in the body and helps hold the skin firmly together. However, HA concentration differs in both of these dermal fillers. Voluma contains a higher concentration of HA to produce a deeper volumizing effect offering longer lasting outcomes.

In fact, Juvederm Voluma is the first dermal filler that the FDA has approved for adding volume to the cheeks. Patients with depleted or thinning cheek skin can benefit significantly from Juvederm Voluma injections at an advanced medical spa.

On the other hand, Juvederm Ultra medical spa injectable filler has a relatively lower HA concentration and is meant to fill moderate to severe wrinkles and creases in the face.

Texture

Juvederm and Voluma come in gel form to instantly add volume to precise facial areas. But the texture of Voluma is comparable to that of Jello while the texture of Juvederm Ultra is similar to pudding. Voluma has a thicker texture which helps provide a more significant cheek lift and create sustainable facial volume.

Placement

Juvederm Ultra is typically used in the treatment of laugh lines around the mouth and eyes, nasolabial folds, and fine lines underneath the eyes. The provider will inject the gel directly into the wrinkles, folds, and lines for optimal results. They will place the gel at a moderate level below the dermis.

On the other hand, the provider will inject Juvederm Voluma gel deep into the dermis so that it deposits right on top of the facial bones. The higher viscosity of this gel enables it to remain in place and sit deep under the skin.

The injection provider will place it in areas such as the upper cheek, middle cheek, and chin. Juvederm Voluma can help lift the jowls as well even though the gel will not necessarily be injected directly into this site. The Voluma gel cannot be injected underneath the eyes or in the nasolabial folds because of its thickness, unlike Juvederm XC.

Sustainability

The effects of Juvederm and Voluma can sustain for different periods in different patients. The effects of Juvederm Ultra last for around one year on an average.

Allergen informs that Voluma effects can last for as long as two years under optimal conditions. For this reason, Voluma is one of the longest lasting dermal fillers available in the market today for wrinkle reduction and facial volumizing.
